Do you have a housekeeper’s tale?

Kitchen Staff at Wrest Park, 1914.

Are you a Doar, a Wells, a Penketh or a Mackenzie?

Do you have family connections with one of the country houses I write about?

Can you add to these stories?

In 1900 domestic service was the single largest occupation in Edwardian Britain. One in four women worked below stairs – from the exhausted skivvy, to the haughty housekeeper. Most of us have servants in our family tree; masters and mistresses, too.

If you have anecdotes to share, I’d love to hear from you.
